IN CONCLUSION
"Get Out" is a visceral and terrifying account of the horrors of racism. Chris, masterfully created by Peele, shows us how dangerous it can be to simply be a black man in America, and how the ideals that racist people hold are much more insidious and destructive than people realize, even black folks themselves, at first glance. I think my website project shows that Jordan Peele, the director of this film and a black man himself, effectively and brilliantly illustrated the landscape for black people in America through the genre of horror, which is fitting as it plays on the fact that black people face real life horrors everyday throughout America, and that the real scariest part of the film is that it is a somewhat dramatized version of real life. I also have exemplified how pop culture can challenge racism by engaging with elements such as symbols, rituals, and the “sunken place theology”. In short, Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” presents us with an image of Racism embedded in American Christian culture and calls on us to challenge it for the potential of challenging racism.
